08 FLAG 2012

“Daily Flag 8” by Leah, Melanie, Mike & Arthur at 91 Leuty Ave. 20” x 48”. Acrylic spray paint, padded cotton and felt snowflakes on framed canvas. SOLD $50 Under the light of the full moon, eight snowflakes drift gently down onto the snow covered mountain. It doesn’t take much to imagine the soft scent of the evergreens, and to feel the snowflakes melt on your face in this tranquil scene. Inspired by the flagmaker’s fond memories of winter in Québec, the sentiment of this flag is perhaps best expressed in the words of Québécois poet and songwriter, Gilles Vigneault, in his much loved Mon Pays (c.1966): “Mon pays ce n’est pas un pays, c’est l’hiver; Mon jardin ce n’est pas un jardin, c’est la plaine; Mon chemin ce n’est pas un chemin, c’est la neige; Mon pays ce n’est pas un pays, c’est l’hiver.” — (My country is not a country, it’s winter; My garden is not a garden, it’s the plains; My road is not a road, it’s the snow; My country is not a country, it’s winter)
