“Daily Flag 3″ by Jennifer, Kim & Family at 89 Leuty Ave. 24” x 30”. Silhouette printed on weather resistant banner material. SOLD $120 A traditional image of the three Magi on route to the Nativity with their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh is striking in its treatment as a silhouette, leaving us to imagine the wealth of colour we often associate in our minds with these noblemen. The use of silhouette to represent the delivery of luxury gifts to a poor child reminds us to share our good fortune with others. At the same time, it offers an ironic interpretation in that the word silhouette derives from Étienne de Silhouette, a French finance minister who was forced by France’s credit crisis to impose severe economic demands upon the French people in 1759, a situation not unfamiliar to many in our world today.
