Daily Flag 17 on Wednesday, December 17 at 46 Leuty by Colin & Natalie. 30″x30″ Reclaimed maple, cedar, beach glass, rocks and roots assembled in panel form. Daily Flag 17 is reminiscent of the flagmakers’ family tradition of going out and finding the perfect Christmas tree in the forest. But this is the last year of tree-cutting for this family, with a plan to preserve their tree with its roots and replant it in the Spring. The use of recycled materials to make the flag reflects their commitment to conservation. But it is also about their memories of “Roots and Wings”, the theme of a summer camp that many members of their family attended during their youth. The phrase sticks with them still. “Strong roots give us wings.” To use a simple analogy – healthy roots make a beautiful tree. But is also a metaphor to illustrate the impact of not having enough food to eat. Being properly fed and nourished gives us the wings we need find success and happiness in our lives. Putting good food on families’ tables gives them the “roots” they need so that they, too, can take wing and find success. SOLD $300
