Daily Flag 9 on Monday, December 9 at 1966 Queen St E by Paris & The Kilbourne Family. 38”x28” Laminated photographic print. SOLD $120 Nine birch trees fore-grounded against the Northern Lights immediately brings to mind the well-know Canadian Folk song, Land of the Silver Birch, based on the verses of Pauline Johnson, 19th Century First Nation poet. The “blue lake and rocky shore” in the song conjures up images of the Canadian Shield and northern landscapes, reflected in this flag by the colourful, dancing Northern lights frequently seen there. The young flagmaker asks us to work to see the forest through the trees – to eradicate poverty not just hunger – and offers the Aurora Borealis as a symbol of hope and light to those who struggle.
