19 Flag 2015

Daily Flag 19 on Saturday, December 19 at 46 Leuty by Colin & Natalie. 28″x38″ Reclaimed wood, beach glass (bricks not part of this piece). “Tree of Peace.” DailyFlag 19 depicts the mighty pine topped with a star, rendering it a Christmas tree. The modern practice of Christmas trees began around 1500 in Germany, but the tradition of bringing green braches into ones home to celebrate faith in eternal life was part of winter rituals among many cultures going as far back as the Egyptians. The symbolism of the pine includes creativity, wisdom, life, longevity and immortality. Perhaps the most pertinent to us here in Canada, and much needed by the world, is its symbolism to the Six Nations of the Haudenosaunee as the Tree of Peace.
