15 Flag 2015

Daily Flag 15 on Tuesday, December 15 at 68 Leuty by The Kilburn-Doucette Family. 40”x30” Cloth and felt, hand-sewn applique, Port Perry wrought iron candelabra. “Ring out the Carols.” DailyFlag 15 is a very special flag indeed, depicting three carolling angels floating below the glowing light of a wrought iron candelabra. It was created by the 104 year old grandmother of the Kilburn-Doucette family. Mrs. Driffield’s attachment to The Beach neighbourhood goes back decades with fond memories of picnics at Kew Gardens in the 20s, romantic canoe trips over to Toronto Island, and, poignantly for this project, working hard to make ends meet. The classical imagery of three carolling angels represents family and tradition, the passing down of cherished values and practices from one generation to the next through words, songs and actions to emulate.
